Dating back to 1933 and a factory built in the shadow of Cape Town Castle, the company is now centred near Johannesburg and is Africa's largest manufacturer of lead products. Originally, Castle Lead Works manufactured lead roofing washers. Today, the company's services range from lead-ingot manufacture to the installation of complete chemical plants.

These services depend on lead-extrusion presses, rolling mills, casting facilities, refining and metal recovery plant and large workshops.

Castle Lead Works has an enviable safety record and is remarkably sensitive to environmental matters. There is little pollution, since production depends on metallic lead rather than ore reduction.

The company undertakes its own research and development and has its own analytical laboratory in which atomic absorption spectrometry is used.
